The members of the Red Ecolsierra are small and medium producers, organized into 24 base groups. Most of them are people from the interior of the country (or descendants of these) who came to the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta as harvesters and were colonizing the lands of the coastal massif, living from coffee and cocoa cultivation.

Progreso supports the cocoa rehabilitation program, Encourages the production of organic fertilizers and supports with two technicians, tools and supplies for a cocoa laboratory, among other related activities.


The results were reflected in the purchase and delivery of fertilizers and controllers to the producers, for example, 160 cans of 20 liters each and 770 packages of 50 kg of solid compost, delivery of seeds and cocoa clones and assistance the cocoa laboratory construction la Mojana territory.

Building Partnerships for Coffee Success in Uganda: A Joint Visit by Rabo Foundation and Progreso Foundation

Earlier this month, a key visit took place to three coffee cooperatives in Eastern Uganda—MEACCE, MECAHC, and Bushika—by Anne Rappoldt (Program Manager Africa at Rabo Foundation), Imke Straaten (Program Manager Africa at Progreso Foundation), and Janet Maate (Project Manager Uganda at Progreso Foundation). These cooperatives are great examples of how targeted support and collaboration can significantly boost the coffee sector in Uganda.

This cooperative of coffee farmers of the Sierra Nevada in Santa Marta has producers located between the Minca and Río Piedra areas. This green business not only seeks to sell coffee and cocoa but also focuses on improving the lives of the 56 families, with a special focus on providing additional income to women (currently 19) for being female-produced coffee. Progreso also supports them in their transition to organic cocoa and helps them promote their products. This results in organic cocoa certifications, improvements in cocoa quality through correct fermentation methods and different visits to cocoa events worldwide. 

Cooagronevada is included in the “Plan Maestro”, meaning that they are using our digital tools to improve their technical data in the field and commercialization through Beyco.

Asprotimana is located in Timana in the department of Huila. This coopertive produces one of the best quality coffees, characterized by high acidity and a sweet and pronounced citrus profile.

Their producers are located in Timaná, Suaza, Elías, Tarquí and Pitalito (within the department of Huila), but through their work over the last 12 years the coop has benefited around 179,000 families in more than 7,800 villages in the country.

Progreso included Asoprotimana in its “Plan maestro” for the use of digital tools and finding more clients through Beyco. Furthermore they are a good ally for tackling the climate change issue in the region.

Asopep is an association located in Planadas – Tolima, where the producers are spread in Acato, Aipe, Bilbao and Planadas regions with goal of commercialize their own coffee production, form their own form of government and design their own farm conservation model to guarantee resources for future generations.The organization is included in the “Plan Maestro” they are using our digital tools to improve their technical data in the field and commercialization through Beyco. Asopep is a leader in agroforesrty system in Colombia

MECAHC Secures Major Loan from Root Capital 

MECAHC, one of our partners in Uganda, has secured a substantial loan of USD 200,000 from Root Capital. This critical financial boost allows them to strengthen their business, expand their reach, and maintain their independence. It’s a milestone that reflects MECAHC’s growing capacity and resilience in the competitive coffee market, and it highlights how Progreso’s support can open doors to larger financing opportunities.

Progreso Foundation, Rabo Foundation, and LDC Field Visit to Koperasi Kopi Lintong Humbang Hasundutan

In September 2024, Progreso Foundation, Rabo Foundation, and Louis Dreyfus Company (LDC) visited Koperasi Kopi Lintong Humbang Hasundutan in North Sumatra to monitor the cooperative's progress. The team included representatives from Progreso, Rabo Foundation, and LDC, including program managers and agronomists.

Building Partnerships for Coffee Success in Uganda: A Joint Visit by Rabo Foundation and Progreso Foundation

Earlier this month, a key visit took place to three coffee cooperatives in Eastern Uganda—MEACCE, MECAHC, and Bushika—by Anne Rappoldt (Program Manager Africa at Rabo Foundation), Imke Straaten (Program Manager Africa at Progreso Foundation), and Janet Maate (Project Manager Uganda at Progreso Foundation). These cooperatives are great examples of how targeted support and collaboration can significantly boost the coffee sector in Uganda.

The Asoarhuaco Association is an indigenous producers association from the Sierra Nevada of Santa Marta region of northern Colombia. The cocoa producers are found between the Aracataca and Fundación river basins that shelter 17 communities, from Kantinurwa to Kutunsama.

Progreso’s supports the rehabilitation of cocoa cultivation, the installation of benefit centers and storage and access to external markets. The support resulted in the rehabilitation of 6 ha of cocoa, control of the often occurring monilia plague, implementing good organic agricultural practices, the improvement of social networks and contributing to European cocoa networking connections. Asorarhucao is in the “Plan Maestro“, meaning they are using Progreso´s digital tools to improve their technical data in the field and commercialization through Beyco.

Anei is an association of 82 cocoa producers from families belonging to four native communities (Arhuacos, Koguis, Kankuamos and Wiwas) and farmers from the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta and Serranía del Perijá (in the north of Colombia). 

Progreso supports the rehabilitation of cocoa cultivation and trains the producers in the cocoa fermentation to get that special quality flavor. The support resulted in the rehabilitation of 20 ha of cocoa, implementation of irrigation systems and the hiring of an agronomist and technician to support the activities.Furthermore is Anei in the ´Plan Maestro´ meaning they have been implementing and using Progreso´s digital tools to improve their technical data in the field and commercialization through Beyco.
