La Flor del Café Agrarian Cooperative of Rodríguez de Mendoza was established in 2007 by a group of 50 producers from the Mashuyacu River Valley, in the district of Omia, province of Rodríguez de Mendoza, Amazonas region, with the aim of marketing their coffee at fairer prices. In 2020, the members’ assembly decided to take the next step and formally establish the organisation as the La Flor del Café Agrarian Cooperative.
Today, the cooperative brings together around 547 farming families from the province and represents them in the marketing of their coffee. It holds Organic and Fair Trade certifications, supported by certifications and labels such as IMOcert, USDA Organic, BioSuisse, Fairtrade and Fair Trade USA. It also provides ongoing technical assistance to its members, promoting sustainable, agroforestry-based and environmentally friendly farming practices.
A key pillar of its business model is its export orientation: 30% of the cooperative’s sales come from direct exports to markets in the United States, the European Union and Canada. This reflects the quality of its coffee and the strength of its international certifications, while also reducing dependence on intermediaries and strengthening fair incomes for producer families.
