In San Andrés de Tumaco, Nariño, Colombia, COMCACAOT S.A.S. brings together smallholder cocoa producers to create greater opportunities and value for farming families across the region.
Established in 2013 as a farmer-owned company, COMCACAOT is a second-level cocoa organization that unites 17 producer associations, representing around 1,500 farming households across nine areas of Tumaco. Its shareholder base is made up of approximately 4,000 smallholder cocoa farmers, whose farms typically range from one to five hectares.
The organization’s main role is to market cocoa while ensuring quality, volume and traceability. Its principal buyer is Compañía Nacional de Chocolates Luker. At the same time, COMCACAOT is investing in the future of specialty cocoa, including a dedicated processing centre, as well as developing a premium chocolate bar made with high-quality cocoa.
Beyond commercialization, COMCACAOT supports its members through technical assistance, training in good agricultural practices, productive projects and access to agricultural inputs. It also invests in assets and services linked to other agricultural value chains, including oil palm.
The organization reinvests its surpluses into strengthening the cooperative and improving the productive capacity and wellbeing of its members. For COMCACAOT, the goal is clear: to turn collective action into better markets, stronger farms and greater opportunities for smallholder cocoa families in Tumaco.
