Progreso in Papua New Guinea

Progreso works together with Monpi Sustainable Services to provide cocoa seedlings and agricultural trainings to empower and motivate cocoa producing communities of the Madang and New Ireland province.
Currently, there are four nurseries established where seedlings are being produced and sold to the farmers. The farmers receive trainings in best practices for sustainable cocoa production from a group of agronomists that have been recently recruited for this purpose. Cocoa production in Papua New Guinea has dropped significantly due to bad weather conditions and aging trees.
The new seedlings planted in the past year and the ones that the nurseries are going to be producing in the coming years, together with the appropriate technical assistance, will increase cocoa production and the income of farmers participating in this project.
