Farmers in Ivory Coast preparing to become certified
08 May 2011, Ivory Coast
Despite some delays due to the political situation in Ivory Coast, the activities Progreso supports there have resumed. The organisations CACOCI and CANYSSI are preparing over 800 farmers to become Fair Trade and Organic certified.
In the past months, the project -executed by Agro Eco Louis Bolk Institute- has trained farmers in Good Agricultural Practices and pest and disease control (the latter very important, since farmers lose up to 50% of their production to black pods and myriads). The organisations have also worked on improving their traceability systems to be able to handle the certified and non-certified cocoa from their farmers.
We are very glad the work can go on and are looking forward to visiting them soon.
